When creating a user interface, using familiar objects is important. We aren’t trying to recreate the wheel after all. In your creations, you might find yourself in a position to use a <select> menu form element to allow your user to “jump” to different areas of an application, or to securely send them to a page with a different query executed without having to directly pass the variables through the form.

The Survey for People Who Make Websites
If you make websites, or do anything creative on the web, you should take the 2009 survey for people who make websites (sounds like the school for kids who don’t read good) over at A List Apart.
The survey is a collective effort to see where our profession is going and is done yearly. It takes five minutes, do it instead of playing on facebook. [Take the Survey]
1st Annual McNabb-Shy Toy Drive
McNabb & Co Realty is helping to bring a few smiles to the faces of San Marcos children this holiday. This holiday season you can donate a new, unwrapped toy to place under the tree in Harper’s Public House (directions). The toy drive is going on until the 18th of December, so you still have plenty of time to donate. What’s in it for you? If helping under privileged children wasn’t enough for you, you’ll also get a cocktail on the house when you donate. Everyone wins!
The McNabb-Shy Toy drive is sponsored by Harpers Public House, Billy McNabb, Attorney at Law, J’s Bistro, McNabb & Co Realty, and of course, J Ortega Group (our previous company name) and is featured on Newsstreamz.com

Helping Honduras
Our good friends over at ITEC Drywall are throwing a fund raiser to help benefit the people of Honduras. This is the second fundraiser they have thrown to help out. Last year, they were able to raise enough money to help two La Ceiba area rest homes and to donate several baskets of food and staples to help keep their homes clean and sanitary.
This year they are hoping to raise the bar and not only help a larger number of families and rest homes, but to donate money, food and supplies to area orphanages.
To give you all perspective on how much your donation will mean, $90 will feed a family of 6 for a month. As you can see, every little bit can mean a lot.
If you should feel inclined to donate to the Helping Honduras cause, you can do so via Paypal or by mail:

You can also call in your pledge for a later date at (254) 865-0152 or email it directly to donate@itecdrywall.com. Feel free to pass on the official flyer for the cause via email or social networks. [Helping Honduras via ITEC Drywall]

Now Members of the Better Business Bureau

We deal with a lot of clients from all over the country, many who have been burned by designers that are only giving their work a part time effort. That provides a challenge that is unique to this industry, the challenge of giving our potential clients a reason to trust that we’ll deliver the results we promise and be there for them when they need us.
When I thought about this challenge, I was reminded of a story a good friend of mine told me. His truck was giving him trouble and he took it in to the local dealership. I asked him if he realized that he could take it to a mom and pops shop and have it fixed for half that cost and he said “Yea I know, but it all comes down to accountability, and I want to know that if something goes wrong with my repair, someone is going to be there to fix it.” It all comes down to accountability.

Pop’s Shop, LLC Launch
In September we were hired by Pop’s Shop, LLC to design and build them a website to showcase the various bikes, cars, trucks and ATVs they design. We had previously designed their logo and business cards for them back in the spring of this year.
Pop’s Shop, LLC is located in Gatesville, Texas, right outside of Waco, Texas. They specialize in custom bike work. They don’t stop at paint jobs, they’ve actually created custom parts to really set their clients apart from the rest of the packs that we see at bike weeks across the country.

Apartment Ninjas Launch
In late August we were hired by Apartment Ninjas as consultants to help get their apartment locating website off the ground and bringing in money. The company had worked with other design and development firms in town and frustrated with the solutions they had received. We were able to map out an entire redesign, both back-end and front-end, and implement the ideas. These ideas included a more streamlined apartment entry admin tool, Google Maps integration, a new SEO strategy, and a completely fresh site design. As of this week Apartment Ninjas has began going live, with features still rolling in on the backend.
